NOT THE SAME GIRL

  1. I very much relate to the way you describe the 'MS experience'. My wife Jackie was diagnosed in 1988 with primary progressive MS. As you say, it is hard to adjust to the changes that MS brings, but those who know you and love you will probably disagree with the sentiment expressed in the title of this thread. You are and will continue to be the same person, albeit that your personality and character will inevitably be influenced by the experience of living with MS. Be patient with those who have no knowledge or experience of MS: it is really hard for anyone to understand what it is like. I would be the same with other conditions of which I have no knowledge or experience, like Parkinsons or MND for example. MS is different in every individual, depending entirely on which parts of the brain and nervous system are affected. This means that you, more than anyone else, including the medics, will be the one with expert knowledge of your condition. Those who know and understand MS will recognise that and allow you to lead them. If they don't, you will need to have the confidence to challenge them. Believe in yourself: you always will be the same Hanya Gordon, even if the bubbles in your personality sometimes struggle to reach the surface. xx

  2. Thank you John. I am hoping that this BLOG provides a 'space' for me to gather my thoughts and express them in a creative way. It is very much a journey, journey of discovery and self-discovery as I come to terms with living with a cruel condition which can be hard to explain and difficult to understand. I will be very pleased to have friends with me along the journey x
